14th Ave NW Visioning Project
Welcome to the 14th Ave Visioning Project! 14th Ave NW is a one-mile boulevard
located in the East Ballard neighborhood of Seattle, WA. Our goal is to
engage our community to create a safe and functional boulevard for all.
We are allied with the East Ballard Community Association (EBCA).
The 14th Ave boulevard runs from the ship canal of Salmon Bay to
Ballard High School and is home to a wide variety of
businesses and residents. Please join us in our vision!

Our group was awarded $18,000 in cumulative reserve funds from Department of Neighborhoods and Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) to implement improvements on 14th Ave NW that incorporate our vision. Our steering committee has worked with SDOT on project proposals, while Susan Black Associates Landscape Architects have also volunteered their expertise to help guide our project.
This project involves constructing two curb extensions at the intersection of 14th Ave NW and NW 58th. The curb extensions will calm traffic approaching the intersection and will encourage cars to park along the curb. Parked cars along the curb reduce the perceived vehicle right-of-way and have proven to slow vehicle traffic. In contrast to traditional concrete curb extensions, these extensions will contain soil and plant material. Rain water that flows down 14th Ave NW will be filtered through these plants before draining directly into Salmon Bay. The currently faded crosswalk will also be re-marked, providing better visibility of crossing pedestrians. Here are two articles from the Ballard News-Tribune about this project:
