- Hours worked on project since last meeting:

Dawn: 4 hours (2hr mailings, ½hr admin, 1 ½hr attending RFP informational

- Camper Van Parking on 14th Ave NW:
Report from Rob who attended the Ballard meeting on camper concerns in
Ballard. This meeting was held last Wednesday at the Ballard Neighborhood
center. There were representatives from businesses, Mars Hill church, SDOT
and the police. They focused mainly on campers south of market (3rd Ave
to 15th Ave
from the water to Market St).
Businesses wanted the campers removed, however, they know if parking is
restricted they’ll just move some place else. Our committee discussed that
it would be nice to have a designated location for campers to park with
facilities provided, however, this does not seem to be a plan right now.
Maybe Mars Hill could help provide a solution. In the meantime, SDOT has
asked individuals to report areas that are of most concern. They will then
send out people to survey and post no parking signs (probably the no
parking from 2am-5pm signs) that are already in certain spots south of
Market on 14th. Rob will coordinate an effort to do a survey on
14th.
- Status on Request for Proposal (RFP) for Urban Planner:
The RFP was made public last week. On Feb 3rd, we help an
informational meeting for prospective firms. We had 5 firms in attendance
(a very good sign!). We have also had verbal interest from a handful of
additional firms. All bids are due by Monday Feb 13th at 5PM.
Interviews will be held on Feb 17th and we’ll make an
announcement on our final selection on Feb 24th.
- Business lunch at Louie’s
Mary Lou and
Rob are organizing this luncheon to provide an opportunity for businesses
along 14th Ave NW
and the surrounding area to learn more about our project and provide an
opportunity to voice their ideas, concerns, enthusiasm, etc. We selected
Friday March 9th at 11:30 at Louie’s. Mary Lou will make 50
invitations. Rob and Mary Lou will hand deliver the invites 2 weeks in
advance and request RSVP? Rob will coordinate the speakers from this
luncheon. Tentative list right now includes Peter, Rob, Sam Starr, Rob Mattson
and possibly Thomas Whittemore.
- Storm Sewer Stenciling Project
Dawn can start
coordinating this effort, but may need help along the way. We decided to do this in early
May before school gets out. We want to get Ballard High School
students, Western Woodland Elementary and St. Alphonse's students
involved. If the city doesn’t provide any education, we can get People for
Puget Sound to provide education http://www.pugetsound.org. This
event should be held during the school day. We may need to spread this
over a few days depending on the scope of this project.
- Adopt A Street Event in April (Celebrate Earth Day)
Mary Lou will
coordinate this event. Dawn will help out.
We need a project name to put on the Adopt A Street Sign. We agreed on
East Ballard Community Association,
since that is the organization affiliated with our project. We decided to
have the clean up day on Earth Day, Saturday April 22nd. We’ll
see if he can get a block closed down on 14th so we can have a
BBQ in the median after the clean up. Just something simple like hotdogs
and veggie dogs, drinks, cookies, chips, etc. We’ll put out flyers in the
all of the businesses, hand them out to neighbors, advertise in the
Ballard News Tribune, contact the schools, etc. We’ll ask Ballard Market
to put something on their big Marquee on 15th and maybe the high
school, St. Alphonse’s and Mars Hill could advertise for us too on their
signs?
- Capital Improvement Program Project Suggestion Form
If we want the
city to consider us in their budget for 2007-2008, then we will need to
submit a project suggestion form by the end of March. We all agreed that
we should submit something more informational advising that we have plans
to have a project in that timeframe and would like to be considered in the
budget, however, we do not have specifics at this time. We will let Peter
coordinate this effort if he feels we should submit a request.
- Ballard District Council Monthly Meeting
We need to
make a presence at this monthly meeting which is held on the 2nd
Wednesday of every month at the Ballard Library at 5:30PM. We decided to
all take turns. Mike Kelly will
attend on March 8th.
- Neighbor Appreciation Day – Feb 11th
It’s too late
to really plan anything, but do take a moment out of your day to thank
your neighbors. Thank-you cards are available at the Ballard Neighborhood
Center and
Library. More info at this site: http://www.ci.seattle.wa.us/neighborhoods/appday/
- Website admin
Rob will put
these meeting notes up on the website. He’s also going to give Dawn an
email account for organizing emails.
- August Night Out
We’ll work on
this as the time approaches.
