*03/19/08 Steering Committee Meeting Notes*
Adopt-A-Street Cleanup Event April 26th 10am-1pm
We agreed to schedule this event for April 26th from 10-1 pm. Peter, Mary Lou and Dawn will organize this event. Dawn will be out of town on that day, so Peter advised that he will be in charge on the day of the event.
To Do Items:
For Dawn:
-Design flyer
-Ask Mary to help with printing and posting
-Arrange for flyers to be posted along 14th Ave and neighborhood businesses starting Saturday April 12th
-Ask Holly if she could help get Ballard Market and Equal Exchange donations (coffee and water in morning and chili and soft drinks in afternoon. Will also need coffee cups, cream, bowls and spoons. My guess is enough of everything for 25 people?)
-Ask Sarah Britton if she would like to coordinate her neighborhood for cleanup of 14th south of Market?
-Ask Bob Rutledge if we can use the church's green space on day of and also ask if his congregation would like to be involved
For Peter:
-Give Dawn a hammer stapler for flyer posting
-Work with Mary Lou to schedule the event with the city to have cleanup items delivered to Rob's house? Will need to coordinate day of event to move supplies across the street.
-Contact Mars Hill?
For Linda Frank:
-Advertise event in Ballard High School publication
For Darlene:
-Contact Ballard Tribune to add event to Community Calendar for publication in the April 23rd paper
-When talking to the Tribune, can you ask them to revise the ongoing entry in their community calendar. It currently says that the 14th Ave NW Steering Committee meets the 3rd Wed of each month at my house. Can you have them change that to the 3rd Thursday of each month at Blowing Sands Glass, 5801 14th Ave NW. They can still use the same contact number, 206-953-3940.
For All:
-Please review attached flyer and advise if needs revising
-----
Possible Small and Simple Grant Application for July 7th application deadline
Peter proposed applying for a Small and Simple Grant that would provide prize money for a design competition where college students are challenged to come up with a design for 14th Ave NW based on the vision created by Carlson Architects. This competition would engage students in landscaping, architecture, urban design and or engineering to have a semester coruse with the end project being creative solutions to improve our street.
To Do Items:
-Peter will contact instructors at UW and see what they can contribute. He will also discuss with Mary Lou who already has some contacts. Also Bryce Maryman with the Urban Design Department.

July 11th - A Day in 14th Ave NW Park
We have a rough concept of what we'd like to see happen on this day, but we need someone to organize the event and delegates responsibilities. Darelene advised that she may be able to organize, she also will contact some folks in the neighborhood who may be interested too.
The following is a rough sketch of what would need to get done:
-Peter to send us image of park in Leeds England for inspiration
-Obtain turf
-get permission to close the street
-food
-music
-T-shirt design
-coordinate silk-screening of tshirts onsite?
-games/entertainment for kids
-exhibits (neighborhood organizations like Ballard Corners Park, Groundswell, Sustainable Ballard, etc)
-poster and flyer design
-media outreach
-donations for raffle
-obtain grant money (small sparks) to pay for event
-get Ballard High involved
-wind generator exhibit? Get Dave from Sustainable Ballard?
