14th Ave Visioning Project Vision:
The goal of the 14th Ave NW Visioning Project is to engage the entire community in the immediate vicinity of the boulevard in order to develop a consensus vision for safety, aesthetic, and functional improvements to the avenue.
Our project's visions are listed below. These visions are based on input received directly from the entire community of residents and businesses:
- Automobile and truck traffic flows smoothly and safely through the corridor on one lane of traffic in each direction.
- Traffic in the north end of the corridor is limited to local traffic due to street design and traffic control.
- Trucks in the manufacturing area maneuver easily on wide streets and intersections.
- The ambiance of the corridor is appealing to residents, businesses and visitors. Sidewalks are smooth and even and planting strips are landscaped and well maintained.
- Pedestrians cross safely at intersections marked with crosswalks and signage.
- The business/manufacturing area is well lighted with industrial strength lighting fixtures and is free of litter and graffiti.
- The residential area is lighted with attractive pedestrian-scale street lights that continue on the intersecting side street to 15th Avenue NW and 8th Avenue NW.
- Bicyclists travel safely on smoothly paved, dedicated bike lanes.
- Portions of the median are planted with indigenous plants and garden plots are attended and maintained by adjacent residents.
- Neighbors gather and children play in park-like open space areas in the right-of-way north of Market Street.
- Storm water is collected and directed to swales with creative water features.
- Public art with an industrial theme adorns well-organized parking areas for employees of business and manufacturing firms south of Market Street.
- The waterfront park at the Ship Canal is attractive and well used by workers and residents in the area.
